Delaware Death Blow to AC, Legalizes Table Games
In a move that is no surprise to anyone paying that follows the casino industry, yesterday, Delaware approved table games for their racinos.
Legislation to allow table games in casinos has been passed in several states in recent months, including Pennsylvania and West Virginia. A similar bill is currently pending in Ohio.
My concern isn’t with the state of New Jersey and Atlantic City’s well being. My concern is with me. This is another jab at the casino operators in Atlantic City, which is where I’ve done most of my gambling. I’ve invested time and money in these casinos. They are also convenient for me. Because of that, I don’t want to see them fail.
It seems as if the Harrah’s casinos are the only casinos trying to fight back and make some improvements. This is happening slowly, but surely with plans to renovate, improve clubs and add entertainment. Good for them.
Good luck to the other casinos. I’m sure I’ll be experimenting with new casinos in the next year.
DEATH BLOW!

This could also be great for people who travel to AC.
It was, after all, expansion of gambling in the country (Atlantic City in 1979, and then the Indian gaming act of 1988) that led Las Vegas to remake itself with first the Mirage, and then other casinos that expanded the attractions beyond pure gambling and into a full fledged destination.
AC has a good density of casinos, and the beach. They can build on that.
This could be good for AC visitors, competition often is.
Stevie, generally I agree with you. Competition is usually better for the customer. I’m hoping that all of this increased competition from other markets forces the casinos to offer improvements and better values.
I see some improvements happening slowly, but I’m not sure there are better values yet. Time will tell.
