Gambling & Casino Talk from Las Vegas to Atlantic City

Week In Review 2

Posted on July 25, 2010 by Marc

Crazy week at ECG.  The big news was the plan for major changing in horse racing and Atlantic City.  The plans seem major, but they’re just plans and this is coming from the government, so I’m taking a wait and see while watching how things unfold.

This week will be the beginning of significant changes to ECG.  I’ve been wanting to change the layout for a while, and that will happen in the next two weeks which mean that content will be slowing down and things will likely get (more) funny looking.

In this time I’ll explain why I’m welcoming the New BetRevolution.com to be my new sportsbook sponsor.  It’s almost football season!  Here’s the fun from the past week.

World Series Of Poker Final Table Set 3

Posted on July 21, 2010 by Marc

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) narrowed the field from over 7,000 to the final table of 9.  The final table takes place and the 9 remaining players are called the “November Nine.”  Witty, huh?

Following 13 days of intense competition at the 2010 World Series of Poker(1), two North American PokerStars players have advanced to join the elite ‘November Nine’ and will compete for the $8,944,138 first prize and the title of 2010 World Series of Poker champion.  Canadian Jonathan Duhamel and American Jason Senti skillfully outplayed their competition to earn the coveted seats at the final table, and now await the November 6 final date for their next shot at the grand prize.

That’s quite a prize for the winner.  It’s amazing how far the WSOP has come from it’s small beginnings.  Here’s a look at the November Nine from the Atlantic City Weekly blog.

Week In Review 1

Posted on July 11, 2010 by Marc

Lots of good stuff this week on ECG.  I’m going to slowly start ECG 4.0 in the next few weeks.  I’m going to try to do this behind the scenes, but my lack of programming skills may not allow that.  So if the site looks as if it’s under construction then it probably is.  This won’t effect the blog updates, but some features may go away.

Feel free to email me if there’s something you’d like to see on the next version of ECG or if you have an idea for a logo.  You can reach me than [eastcoastgambler] at [gmail] dot [com].

World Series of Poker Registration Up At Least 20% 6

Posted on July 07, 2010 by Marc

Registration isn’t over for all events at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) yet, but the total number of entries is already 20% more than last year.

Official statistics from the 41st World Series of Poker currently running at the Rio in Las Vegas indicate that through the first 56 events, there have been 65,647 entries, surpassing last year’s total entries including the main event of 60,875. And this year’s main event registration numbers have yet to be recorded!

I thought interest in casino poker might be slowing last year with the 8% drop in TV ratings.  Maybe, I was wrong.  It can happen.  Maybe people still have dreams of a dollar and a chip.

Las Vegas Round Up 1

Posted on June 21, 2010 by Marc

There have been a bunch of good articles in the past couple of weeks about Las Vegas, but I haven’t had the brain to do more than just read them.  Instead of just letting them sit in the ether, I figure I’d share them and add a little commentary where needed.

  • Royally Flushed has details on MGM Grand upgrade deals.
  • About 10% more people attending this years World Series of Poker (WSOP).
  • Are free drinks going away? Probably not in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.  Maybe in some of these new casino markets.
  • Vegas Chatter stays at Hooters so you don’t have to…in case you were curious.
  • Vegas Mavens reviews Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast.  I’ve been here and all I remember is that the hot mustard was hot.
  • MGM Mirage officially changes their corporate name to MGM Resorts International.  Sale of Mirage can’t be too far behind, no matter what MGM says.
  • New Vegas Gang podcast went up on Friday.  It’s a goody.
  • Some nice pictures from Vegas Rex.
  • Penn National get final approval for Las Vegas.  Does this speed up their purchase of Rio?  Maybe Mirage?  Maybe Station?
  • Dr. Dave Schwartz has a couple of good articles on twitter use in Las Vegas.  UNLV Center For Gaming Research has a study of how casinos use twitter.  Vegas Seven looks at the Harrah’s social media team.
