I caught a virus midweek that slowed things down here, but I was able to get a few more items up from my trip to Las Vegas as well as some news.  Hopefully all future posts will come from my new Macbook.

Room Service! 3

Posted on January 12, 2010 by Marc

Rooming alone and not being able to sleep normal hours leads to a lot of things.  In this case, it lead me to ordering room service a couple of times when I stayed at Palazzo.

I enjoyed both breakfast and lunch in my room.  A couple of general notes about room service.  Both meals were delivered in less than 30 minutes and were both hot.  The servers were both very cordial and set everything up pretty quickly in the dining area.

BREAKFAST

I ordered a very simple breakfast one morning:  Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, orange juice and coffee.

As I mentioned in my coffee blog the brew was Starbucks and tasted fine enough for me to finish off the pot.  I don’t drink orange juice very often but I was in the mood for it and it was perfect for the morning.  It wasn’t the best OJ I’ve had, but it was above average.

Scrambled eggs are not always the easiest thing to have prepared for room service since they get cold quickly and can easily be cooked too much or too little.  These eggs were on point and still warm.  I was very happy about this.  The bacon was nice and crisp which made me very happy.  I’m not a big home fry guy and I don’t even remember them.  I had sourdough toast which was luke warm, but tasty.  I find that sourdough is always better out west then back east.

Overall, breakfast was excellent, but unspectacular and I’m fine with that.

LUNCH

I was beat up one morning and afternoon and needed to sit in the room, breathe and eat some greasy food.  I also gave a light hair of the dog beer a chance to fix me and it worked.  My lunch order was simple:

Bacon Cheeseburger (cheddar cheese), french fries and Coors light.  As you see above the burger was accompanied by a handful of onion rings, veggies and condiments.

The food was still warm when it arrived and the beer was on ice so it was obviously cold.  Much like scrambled eggs, it’s easy to over or under cook and mess up a room service burger.  Thankfully my burger was prepared medium as I asked for it.  Much like the breakfast the bacon was crisp and tasty.

I ate pretty slowly and only nibbled on the fries and onion rings.  Both were starting to get cold when I got around to them, but tasted fine.  Again, nothing spectacular but everything was good.

The real winner of my room service lunch was the Coors Light!  All in all lunch was perfect and got me settled and up and out of the room.

Unlike my trip to Caesars in Atlantic City mid last year there was nothing spectacular about my room service orders but everything was good and warm and did the job.  I would not be afraid to order room service at Palazzo again in the future.  That’s good for a lazy guy that likes to drink too much sometimes.

Caesars Atlantic City Centurion Room 0

Posted on June 15, 2009 by Marc

I stayed at Caesars for the first time on my most recent trip to Atlantic City.  Check in was a breeze.  I was impressed with VIP check in as there were quite a few reps ready to get people moving.  This is good since space is limited.  I was lucky enough to get a corner room in the Centurion Tower.  I’ve read on Trip Advisor that these are the best rooms that aren’t suites.  That was the truth.  In fact, my room was the biggest and nicest room I’ve had at a casino that wasn’t a suite.

Full sized pictures can be found on my flickr page.

I knew this room was bigger than normal because I had to make a turn upon entry.  That’s usually the sign for a big room.  On the first turn I passed the bathroom to the right and ample closets to the left.

The bathroom was a good size with a nice sized shower with bench, single sink, granite counters, seperate water closet and a TV IN THE MIRROR.  The doors was just sliding frosted glass.  I’m not sure how I would feel about this at home, but for a hotel room with seperate water closet this is just fine and allows for an airy feel.

Here’s a closer look at the TV in the mirror (obviously something I like a lot).  Feel free to disregard my toilet trees.

After my excitement for the bathroom passed I walked into the room itself.  It was a rainy day, so please excuse the dark pictures.  The room was very large and modern with white and gold accents on the bedding.  There was a very spacious seating area.  In a normal room I can sit and put my legs up on the bed, but the chairs were about 5 steps away.

Speaking of the cloudy day you can see the awesome view from both of my windows.  The first picture is straight down the shore.  You’re notice Trump Plaza to the right and, of course, the beach to the left.  You’ll also see Trumps Beach Bar, which I didn’t get a chance to visit.

A turn to the left in my room put me looking straight at the Atlantic ocean and the Pier shops, which were not busy at all when I visited.  img00188 300x225 Caesars Atlantic City Centurion Room

Housekeeping was great.  This has been spotty at the Harrah’s properties over the past year.  The room was cleaned noticeably each day.  The tip I left on the first day was moved, but not taken.  I guess leaving a note would have been smart.

Room service was relatively fast and always good and perfectly warm or cold.  My first morning I ordered bacon, eggs, coffee, water and the mixed melon.  This made for a fantastic hangover remedy.

The real star here was the mixed melon.  It was a pefect compliment to the salt of the bacon and strength of the coffee.  I ordered the melon every day.  It was very refreshing.

The sun finally came out for the day I decided to leave.  It made for a great drive home after a little gambling on the last morning of the trip.

Overall, this Centurion room was the roomiest non-suite I’ve had.  I peeked into the other rooms while walking through the halls and the other rooms seemed to be a similar size.  This was my first time staying at Caesars and I was very happy with everything the room had to offer.  The only real negative to the hotel was the dining options outside of room service.
